If you plan on picking up a pallet of blocks by yourself, I recommend using a heavy duty trailer. That’s too much weight for the typical pickup or HD truck bed to carry. So the typical pallet of concrete blocks weighs around 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 ton. Typically, blocks are stacked no higher than 48″ so the pallet size limits how many blocks they can stack on the pallet using that height as a limiter. This may add a pound or two to the total weight. Most block stacks are wrapped with roll plastic, straps or both. Packaging usually doesn’t add much weight. But larger 48″ x 48″ pallets can weigh as much as 50 lb. The average size pallet at Home Depot or Lowes weighs around 30 lb. However, if you buy your blocks from a masonry supply house they may use the 48″ x 48″ pallet which can safely hold 90 blocks. They generally use the 40″ x 48″ pallet which is a little small for 90 blocks. Here’s another look at that chart from above which shows the amount a typical pallet of 8″ x 8″ x 16″ standard blocks and 6″ x 8″ x 16″ 6 inch blocks weigh.ĩ6 and 72 block pallets can be purchased at Home Depot and Lowes. For this reason 72 is the more common size. When 8″ standard blocks are stacked 90 on a pallet, they require a larger than usual pallet. Most pallets are 40″ wide x 48″ long which is why blocks are typically stacked longer than they are wide. For example, if you order 120 6″ block, most dealers will stack the extra 24 blocks on a full pallet of 96 rather than send two pallets. Pallets of block can hold more or less block depending on what you order. The pallet dimensions are roughly 48″ long x 32″ wide x 48″ tall. The pallet dimensions are about 48″ wide x 48″ long x 40″ tall.Ī 6 inch block pallet is typically stacked flat on their sides, 3 rows long x 4 rows wide x blocks high. When 3 rows of 8 inch standard block are stacked next to each other 6 rows across x 5 rows high, you get 90 blocks instead of 72. The pallet dimensions are approximately48″ long x 36″ wide x 48″ tall. Concrete Blocks Per PalletĪ standard 8 inch block comes stacked on a pallet in two side by side rows stacked 6 blocks high and 6 across. They’re filled with rebar and wet concrete for strength, but I use solid cinder blocks to build small retaining walls because they’re very heavy. I primarily use hollow concrete blocks to build foundation walls, hollow concrete steps, and piers. Concrete blocks are porous so wear gloves if you don’t have a machine. Then you have to offload them by hand or machine. This makes them much easier to transport using a fork lift. When concrete blocks are ordered in bulk they’re delivered on a pallet. You also have to add the weight of the pallet which is 30 lb. and fits 96 blocks per pallet with a total weight of 2688 lb. The smaller 6″ x 8″ x 16″ block weighs 28 lb. and fits either 72 or 90 blocks per pallet with a total weight of 2448 lb. The standard 8″ x 8″ x 16″ block weighs 34 lb. Concrete blocks come in a variety of sizes, but I’ve been a mason for over 25 years and can tell you firsthand that there are two main sizes that builders use regularly, the 8″ x 8″ x 16″ block, which is called a standard block, and the smaller 6″ x 8″ x 16″ which builders simply call the 6 inch block. The smaller and lighter the cinder block the more they can fit on a pallet. How many concrete blocks come on a pallet will fluctuate depending on the size of the block and its weight.
